Trump wants to immediately start negotiating a new nuclear agreement with Iran
US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he would like to reach a new « verified » nuclear agreement with Iran and called to start working « immediately » in this direction, while considering the information that he wants to shatter the Persian nation « very exaggerated ».
« I want Iran to be a large and successful country, but without the nuclear weapon, » Trump said on his account on the social network Truth Social, after assuring that the information that the United States is « working together with Israel, to blow up Iran into pieces is very exaggerated. »
« I would much prefer a verified nuclear peace agreement, which allows Iran to grow and prosper in peace. We should start working immediately, » he said, adding that when the agreement is signed and completed, « a big party in the Middle East » will have to be celebrated.
The message comes after the US president said on Tuesday that he had given « instructions » so that, if Iran kills him, the country would be « annihilated. » In addition, he signed a memorandum to re-establish the policy of maximum pressure on the regime of the ayatollahs.
Trump himself had already used the expression « fly into a thousand pieces » to Iran last September, suggesting that the country was behind two assassination attempts against him.
The Department of Justice announced in November that it had foiled an Iranian plot to assassinate Trump before the presidential election.
Iran said on Wednesday that if the main issue for the United States is that the country does not obtain nuclear weapons, its differences can be resolved and that « there is no problem, » in response to yesterday’s statements from US President Donald Trump.
« If the main issue is that Iran does not develop nuclear weapons, then this is achievable and there is no problem, » Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchí told reporters after the Cabinet meeting.
The US president already imposed the « maximum pressure policy » against Tehran during his first term (2017-2020) and abandoned the 2015 nuclear pact that limited the Iranian nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of sanctions, which sank the Iranian economy.
After the US exit from the nuclear agreement, Iran enriches uranium far beyond what is allowed and already has 182.3 kilos enriched to 60% purity, close to the military use of 90%, according to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). In addition, the Iranian government said that the country’s foreign policy is guided by « dignigny, wisdom and interest » after US President Donald Trump said he is willing to negotiate with Tehran.
« In foreign policy we follow three fundamental principles that are dignity, wisdom, and interest, » Iranian government spokeswoman Fatemeh Mohajerani told reporters in response to a question about Trump’s claims.

La grippe aviaire progresse en Australie avec de nouveaux cas signalés sur l’île Kangourou
Pendant des années, l’Australie est restée le seul territoire épargné par la variante H5 de la grippe aviaire, responsable de graves maladies et d’importants taux de mortalité chez les oiseaux d’élevage et les oiseaux sauvages à travers le monde.
Le premier cas détecté en Australie a été confirmé en juin chez un oiseau marin migrateur.
Mercredi, quatre cas suspects de grippe aviaire ont été signalés sur l’île Kangourou, une destination touristique très prisée de l’État d’Australie-Méridionale, qui abrite également l’une des plus importantes colonies d’otaries du pays.
La ministre des Industries primaires d’Australie-Méridionale, Clare Scriven, a annoncé la fermeture des plages de l’île aux visiteurs afin de protéger ces animaux.
Elle a également indiqué que les autorités attendaient encore la confirmation de onze cas de grippe aviaire supplémentaires dans l’ensemble de l’Australie-Méridionale.
Le laboratoire national des sciences a confirmé cette semaine sept nouveaux cas chez des sternes huppées en Australie-Méridionale, portant à 27 le nombre total de cas recensés.
Près de la moitié des espèces d’oiseaux sauvages d’Australie et 83 % de ses espèces de mammifères sont endémiques de ce vaste territoire.

Iran Executes Two Men Convicted Over Anti-Government Protests in January
Iranian authorities announced Tuesday the execution by hanging of two men convicted on charges related to the anti-government protests that erupted in January, according to the country’s judiciary.
The sentences against Abolfazl Sepahi and Amir Hossein Safari were carried out Tuesday morning, the judiciary’s official website Mizan Online reported.
The state-run Mehr news agency said the executions took place in a public square in the city of Malekshahr, located in Iran’s central province of Isfahan, in front of a crowd.
According to Mizan Online, the two men were convicted of attacking police officers on January 8, allegedly using machetes and knives, and were accused of tying officers to traffic signs, throwing them to the ground, pouring gasoline on them and setting them on fire.
The judiciary said they were also convicted of “moharebeh” (waging war against God) for allegedly using weapons to create fear and terror, as well as “corruption on Earth” for acts described as seriously disrupting public order and national security.
The protests began in late December over the rising cost of living and later developed into broader anti-government demonstrations, reaching their peak on January 8 and 9.
Iranian authorities reported more than 3,000 deaths during the unrest and blamed the violence on alleged “terrorist acts” organized by the United States and Israel. International organizations, however, have accused Iranian security forces of using lethal force against protesters.
According to Amnesty International, Iran is the second country with the highest number of executions in the world after China.

Un puissant tremblement de terre de magnitude 7,1 a frappé le sud-ouest du Japon, provoquant l’effondrement de plusieurs bâtiments, dont le deuxième étage d’un centre commercial où les secours craignent que de nombreuses personnes soient bloquées.

La chaîne privée TBS a évoqué un « nombre considérable » de victimes potentielles, mais la police locale a indiqué à l’AFP qu’elle n’était pas en mesure, pour le moment, de confirmer la présence de morts supplémentaires.
Les autorités japonaises poursuivent les opérations de secours et d’évaluation des dégâts dans la région touchée par le séisme.
