X moves to block Grok from creating sexualized images of real people amid legal scrutiny

Elon Musk’s social media platform X announced new measures to prevent its artificial intelligence chatbot, Grok, from transforming photos of real people into sexualized images in jurisdictions where such content is illegal. The move follows global criticism over the generation of sexually explicit images created from photos of women and minors.

The announcement comes after the California Attorney General’s Office opened an investigation into xAI, Musk’s artificial intelligence company, for allegedly “facilitating the large-scale production of non-consensual intimate deepfakes used to harass women and girls online, primarily through the X platform,” California Attorney General Rob Bonta said in a statement.

“We have zero tolerance for the creation and distribution of AI-generated non-consensual intimate images or child sexual abuse material,” Bonta added.

According to the attorney general, the investigation will determine whether xAI violated state law after the explicit images were “used to harass individuals online.”

California Governor Gavin Newsom said on Wednesday that xAI’s “vile” decision to allow the proliferation of sexually explicit deepfakes prompted him to urge the attorney general to hold the company accountable.

X said it will “geographically block the ability” of Grok and X users to generate images of people wearing “bikinis, underwear, and similar attire” in jurisdictions where such actions are deemed illegal.

“We have implemented technological safeguards to prevent the Grok account from enabling the editing of images of real people wearing revealing clothing, such as bikinis,” X’s safety team said in a statement.

“This restriction applies to all users, including paid subscribers,” the company added.

Trump says Iran seeks new talks after failed negotiations in Pakistan

Donald Trump said on Monday that Iran has reached out to United States to resume negotiations, following the collapse of recent talks held in Islamabad.

“We’ve been contacted by the other side,” Trump told reporters, adding that Iran is eager to reach a deal “at all costs.” Speaking from the Oval Office, he reiterated that his main objective is to prevent the Islamic Republic from acquiring nuclear weapons and warned that he will not allow Iran to “blackmail” the international community.

After negotiations between Washington and Tehran ended without agreement on Sunday, Trump announced that the U.S. would move to block the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global oil trade.

The waterway had already been disrupted by Iran in response to a U.S. and Israeli offensive launched on February 28, causing significant shocks to the global economy.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump further warned that any Iranian vessel attempting to bypass the U.S. naval blockade in the strait would be “eliminated immediately.”
