Mexican authorities investigate priest’s driver over murder of father Estrada

The investigation into the death of Mexican priest Bertoldo Pantaleón Estrada, who was found dead on Monday in the southern state of Guerrero after being missing for two days, is focusing on his driver as the main suspect, according to Security and Citizen Protection Secretary Omar García Harfuch.
“Everything indicates that he was killed inside his vehicle, while he was on his way to celebrate Mass,” García Harfuch said, adding that “so far, there is no evidence suggesting the priest was involved in any wrongdoing or had received threats.”
The secretary confirmed that the alleged perpetrator is currently being sought, and that the motive behind the crime remains unclear.
Meanwhile, President Claudia Sheinbaum stated that the Ministry of the Interior has been in contact with the Catholic Church since the very beginning of the case.

President Javier Milei rocks Buenos Aires stage ahead of key elections

Driven by euphoria, Argentine President Javier Milei turned into a rock frontman on Monday night, performing a live concert in Buenos Aires alongside close allies and hundreds of enthusiastic young supporters. The event took place as his government and political party face mounting political and economic challenges ahead of the October 26 legislative elections.
The concert, held at the Movistar Arena, preceded the presentation of Milei’s new book, “La Construcción del Milagro”(“The Construction of the Miracle”). Dressed entirely in black and wearing a leather jacket, the president made a dramatic entrance, walking through a cheering crowd before taking the stage.
He opened the show with a reworked version of “Panic Show” by the band La Renga, which has become an unofficial anthem for Milei and his supporters.
“Hello everyone, I’m the lion,” he shouted, before singing, “I’m the king and I will destroy you — the political caste is my appetite,” as he jumped and danced energetically.
The president’s setlist included Argentine rock classics such as “Demoliendo Hoteles” by Charly García, “Rock del Gato” by Ratones Paranoicos, and “Blues del Equipaje” by La Mississippi.
Between songs, Milei frequently interacted with the audience, who chanted slogans like “Milei, querido, el pueblo está contigo” (“Milei, dear, the people are with you”), “presidente, presidente”, and “libertad, libertad”.

Colombian coffee production hits 14.8 million bags, best in over three decades

Colombia closed the 2024/25 coffee season with a production of 14.8 million 60-kilogram bags, marking a 17% increase compared to the previous cycle and the highest output in 33 years, the National Federation of Coffee Growers (FNC) announced on Tuesday.
According to FNC data, Colombia produced 14,869,000 bags between September 2024 and August 2025, up from 12.7 million bags in the previous harvest.
FNC manager Germán Bahamón highlighted that this performance “reaffirms the reliability of Colombian coffee origin in the global market” and reflects “the disciplined work of producers, the impact of responsible crop renewal, professional technical assistance, and the favorable weather conditions that supported the production process.”
Looking ahead to the 2025/26 cycle, the FNC warned of a possible drop in output due to the physiological response of coffee plants and the heavy rains expected in the coming semester.
“Each season brings new challenges and opportunities. We will work with determination to ensure that farmer profitability remains the foundation of sustainability and the future of the entire coffee chain,” Bahamón wrote on X.

Ecuador’s government says indigenous leaders refuse dialogue as protests enter third week

Ecuador’s Minister of Government, Zaida Rovira, stated that the leaders of the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (Conaie) have shown no willingness to engage in dialogue, as protests against rising diesel prices and other demands entered their third week on Monday.
Rovira clarified that although the nationwide strike was called across the country, it has mostly affected a few provinces —with Imbabura being the most impacted. She explained that the government managed to hold talks with certain Indigenous groups in recent days, but not with Conaie’s leadership.
“Our position remains open to dialogue, but we cannot allow an entire province (Imbabura) to be held hostage, nor can we allow them to move into another province (Pichincha),” Rovira said in an interview with Teleamazonas, referring to the threat by Conaie President Marlon Vargas to march on Quito, the capital of Ecuador and the province of Pichincha.
“If the government doesn’t listen, we are ready to take Quito. We can’t continue enduring this situation,” Vargas declared during a community meeting last Friday.
Rovira added that the government has made efforts “to engage in dialogue with all Indigenous organizations,” but “unfortunately, we have not received any positive response —only threats.”
“In such a scenario, it becomes very difficult to establish dialogue, even when we seek every possible mechanism,” she concluded, stressing that “there has been no opportunity to discuss or review Conaie’s proposals.”
