Israel targets Hamas spokesperson Abu Obeida, Netanyahu confirms

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated on Sunday that Israel had launched an attack targeting Abu Obeida, the spokesperson for the Ezzedin al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas.
“We attacked the spokesperson of Hamas, the spokesperson of this criminal and murderous organization, Abu Obeida. I hope he is no longer among us, but I see that there is no one from Hamas who can clarify this matter,” Netanyahu said during a government meeting, which was later made public.
Abu Obeida has frequently appeared over the years in videos released by Palestinian militants, wearing combat uniforms and a traditional red Palestinian kufiya covering his face.
Israel has significantly weakened Hamas’ leadership during nearly 23 months of conflict in Gaza and has pledged to eliminate the remaining figures following the October 7, 2023 attack on Israeli territory.
Previously, Israel killed the political chief of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh; the leader of its military wing, Mohamed Deif; and Yahya Sinwar, the Hamas leader and alleged orchestrator of the October 2023 attack, along with other commanders and political figures.

La Niña may return in september, but global temperatures expected to stay above average

The La Niña climate phenomenon could reemerge starting in September, but temperatures are expected to remain above average, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), a UN agency, reported.
Since March 2025, neutral conditions—neither indicating an El Niño nor a La Niña event—have persisted, with sea surface temperature anomalies in the equatorial Pacific remaining close to average, according to the WMO.
“However, in the coming months, possibly starting from September 2025, these conditions may gradually evolve to be consistent with a La Niña episode,” the organization stated in its El Niño/La Niña bulletin.
According to the latest forecasts from the WMO’s Global Producing Centres for Seasonal Forecasts, for the period from September to November, there is a 55% chance that equatorial Pacific sea surface temperatures will drop to the threshold for La Niña.
Subsequently, for the period from October to December 2025, the probability of La Niña occurring rises to 60%.
“Nevertheless, despite the temporary cooling effect caused by La Niña, temperatures are expected to remain above average in much of the world,” the WMO added.
From September to November, temperatures are projected to remain above normal across most of the Northern Hemisphere and much of the Southern Hemisphere, the UN agency said.
Rainfall patterns are expected to follow those typically observed during a moderate La Niña event.
A La Niña episode involves large-scale cooling of the central and eastern equatorial Pacific surface waters, as well as other alterations in tropical atmospheric circulation, including changes in winds, pressure, and precipitation, the WMO explained.
Generally, La Niña produces climatic effects opposite to those of El Niño, especially in tropical regions.

Zelensky to meet european leaders in Paris to seek security guarantees against Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is set to meet European leaders in Paris on Thursday to discuss what security guarantees can be provided to his country to prevent future Russian attacks, his office announced.
Zelensky is scheduled to meet with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, NATO chief Mark Rutte, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
He will hold “intensive discussions on security guarantees for Ukraine,” said Mykhailo Podoliak, an adviser to Zelensky’s office, on social media Tuesday.
The issue of Western-backed security guarantees for Ukraine has dominated recent diplomatic efforts to bring an end to the war with Russia.
Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron lead the so-called Volunteer Coalition, which aims to present a strong protection offer to Ukraine in case Russia attacks after a potential peace agreement. Kyiv, meanwhile, is calling for a European peacekeeping force and NATO-style defense guarantees should its accession to the alliance be ruled out.

Trump breaks silence with 40+ Truth Social posts amid health speculation

U.S. President Donald Trump has reemerged on his social media platform Truth Social, posting over 40 updates in just over a day after remaining silent throughout the weekend — a hiatus that fueled speculation about his health.
Between Saturday night and Sunday, Trump shared a wide range of posts, accusing a construction worker involved in White House renovations of scratching marble tiles, defending his administration’s efforts to reduce crime in Washington, D.C., thanking supporters for potential Nobel Peace Prize nominations, and revisiting claims of Russian interference in the 2016 elections. He ended the spree with a simple: “GOOD NIGHT.”
The unusually high posting activity comes amid growing rumors about the president’s well-being, particularly circulating on social media due to his recent low public profile.
Among his posts was a photograph allegedly taken over the weekend, showing Trump playing golf alongside former NFL coach Jon Gruden, seemingly intended to dispel concerns about his condition.
Trump, 79, was diagnosed in July with chronic venous insufficiency, a benign condition common among older adults. Since then, he has occasionally been seen with swollen ankles and experiencing difficulty walking.
