Hamas calls for “escalating the conflict” in the West Bank after an Israeli bombing with 18 dead

The Palestinian Islamist group Hamas called on the inhabitants of the West Bank to demonstrate to “escalate the conflict” with Israel, after the Israeli Army claimed to have killed one of its leaders in a bombing against a refugee camp with at least 18 deaths.

“We call on the people of the West Bank to take to the streets in all provinces with massive displays of anger, to work on the escalation of the conflict and the confrontation with the occupation,” said the military wing of Hamas, the al Qassam Brigades, in a statement.

Hamas asks the West Bank to act

The organization stressed the “need to mobilize” on the date, while describing yesterday’s attack on the Tulkarem refugee camp as “a dangerous escalation.”

According to the Israeli Army, the bombing killed the leader of Hamas in Tulkarem, identified as Zahi Yaser Abdel Razaq Awfi, and “other prominent members” of the group, a leader who planned to carry out a “terrorist operation” inside Israel in an “imminent” way.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health reported that at least 18 people died on Thursday and several were injured in an Israeli air strike against the refugee camp, while the Palestinian news agency Wafa said that the bombing took place against a cafeteria.

The Palestinian government appeals to the international community

The Palestinian government called the attack a “atrocious crime” and called on the international community and humanitarian and human rights institutions to take immediate action against Israel.

“This massacre confirms that Israel does not care about international decisions and acts as a criminal force above the law,” he denounced in a statement in reference to the decision of the International Court of Justice that on July 19, declared the Israeli occupation of the West Bank illegal.

The Fatah secular formation, in charge of that Government and in parallel, blamed Israel’s “colonial occupation system” for the massacre, which he called “ethnic cleansing,” and also demanded the action of the international community.

New bombing in Gaza

Hours later, in Gaza, at least three people were killed and several injured in an Israeli bombing in the center of the Strip.

The target of the bombing was a house in Deir al Balah, according to Al Quds al Arabi and Quds News Network media reports.

Man arrested after deliberately driving into seven children in Osaka

Japanese police arrested a man on Thursday after he rammed his car into a group of seven schoolchildren in an apparent deliberate attack in the city of Osaka.

The children, who were on their way home from school, sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital. All seven remained conscious, according to local authorities.

An Osaka police officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the suspect is a 28-year-old man from Tokyo. The officer shared statements the man made after his arrest: “I was fed up with everything, so I decided to kill people by driving into several elementary school children,” the suspect reportedly said.

The man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

The injured children, aged between seven and eight, included a seven-year-old girl who suffered a fractured jaw. The six other children—all boys—suffered minor injuries such as bruises and scratches and were undergoing medical evaluation.

Witnesses described the car as “zigzagging” before hitting the children. One witness told Nippon TV that a girl was “covered in blood” and the others appeared to have scratches.

Another witness said the driver, who was wearing a face mask, looked to be in shock when school staff pulled him from the vehicle.

Violent crimes are rare in Japan, though serious incidents do occur from time to time. In 2008, Tomohiro Kato drove a two-ton truck into pedestrians in Tokyo’s Akihabara district, then fatally stabbed several victims. Seven people were killed in that attack.

Kristi Noem credits Trump for mass migrant deportations by mexican president

U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem claimed that Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has deported “more than half a million” migrants due to pressure from former President Donald Trump.

During a cabinet meeting highlighting the “achievements” of Trump’s administration in its first 100 days, Noem asserted that under the Republican leader’s influence, “Mexico has finally come to the table” to negotiate on migration and fentanyl trafficking.

“The president of Mexico told me she has returned just over half a million people before they reached our border,” Noem stated, criticizing media reports that suggest the Biden administration deported more migrants than Trump’s.

“I wish those deportations were counted,” Noem added, “because those people never made it to our border—she sent them back because you made her.” She went on to thank Trump: “They never made it here because they got the message—because you were so aggressive.”

Noem has made controversial claims about Sheinbaum in the past, prompting the Mexican leader to refute them.
