Mourinho to return to Camp Nou for Roma-Barca friendly

AFP

Jose Mourinho will return to Camp Nou in August after Barcelona confirmed on Wednesday they will face Mourinho’s Roma in a pre-season friendly.

Mourinho was last at Camp Nou for a competitive fixture in 2013, towards the end of his spell as manager of Real Madrid that was dominated by the intense rivalry with the Catalans and Pep Guardiola.

The fixture against Roma will be played on August 6, for the Joan Gamper Trophy, and will also be contested by the club’s women’s teams, with the women’s game starting at 5.30pm, before the men’s match at 9pm.

Egypt removes Egyptian football legend Aboutrika from the list of terrorism

The Egyptian Court of Cassation announced on Saturday the decision to remove from the country’s terrorism list the name of the Egyptian football legend Mohamed Aboutrika, as well as another 1,500 more people for their alleged links with the Muslim Brotherhood.

In a statement, the court pointed out that in addition to being removed from this blacklist, the travel ban and the seizure of his funds are also lifted.

“The Court of Cassation heard our arguments today and decided to cancel the judgment of the Criminal Court and return the case for consideration before another court,” said Egyptian lawyer Khaled Ali in his official account of X.

The Criminal Court of Cairo designated Aboutrika in 2017 as a “terrorist” for allegedly financing the Muslim Brotherhood, a group illegalized in Egypt and considered a terrorist since 2013.

A year later, the Prosecutor’s Office requested that his name be included in the country’s “terrorism” list for five years, and last year the Public Prosecutor’s Office decided to renew it for five more years.

This extension is the one that has been rejected today by the Court of Cassation, so this case becomes the competence of another court.

The former Egyptian soccer player publicly supported Mohamed Morsi for the presidency of Egypt, which he won in 2012 in the country’s first democratic elections, although a year later the leader of the Muslim Brotherhood was overthreapped by current President Abdefaltah al Sisi, in a military coup.

International on 102 occasions and double champion of Africa (2006 and 2008), this offensive midfielder, who lives in Qatar and works as a commentator for the Bein Sports channel, was compared for his style of play with the Frenchman Zinedine Zidane and elected Best Player of Africa in club competitions, in 2008.

Super Bowl shatters viewership records with 123.4 million tuning in for Chiefs’ victory

The Super Bowl last Sunday, where the Kansas City Chiefs emerged victorious with a 25-22 win over the San Francisco 49ers and featured Taylor Swift as a star spectator, achieved a record-breaking audience of 123.4 million viewers, setting a new benchmark for television broadcasts in U.S. history.

This spectacle surpassed the previous record held by last year’s Super Bowl, in which the Chiefs also clinched the title, this time against the Philadelphia Eagles, gathering 115.1 million viewers.

The 2024 Super Bowl ranks just behind the Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969, which had an estimated viewership of between 125 and 150 million people in the U.S. However, the comparison is somewhat imprecise since the moon landing was broadcast across various networks, whereas the 2024 Super Bowl was exclusively aired on CBS and its affiliated channels and platforms.

Data from Nielsen Fast National and Adobe Analytics, released by the NFL in a statement on Monday, showed that 120 million people watched the game on CBS.

The remaining viewers tuned in through Paramount+, Nickelodeon, Univision, CBS Sports, and NFL+. Notably, the 2.2 million viewers on Univision set a new record for a Super Bowl broadcast on a Spanish-speaking network.
